Ms. Jagla’s 2nd Grade Dual Language students practiced measuring with rulers today. In class, they were given the task of using rulers to find the distance between two points in the hallway. They started by making educated guesses about how many rulers it would take to cover this distance. Then, they laid the rulers end-to-end and counted them to see who had guessed correctly. Everyone helped Ms. Jagla count the rulers, and they found out that many of these Wildcats were spot on with their educated guesses!

Storytime in the library with Ms. Bing! In this photo she is reading Nigel and the Moon, and you can see Invasion of the Unicorns on the table beside her. The students at Elementary are reading each of the books that were nominated for the 2025 Monarch Award: Illinois' K-3 Readers' Choice Award.

Mrs. Rath’s 8th Graders went on a Trigonometry scavenger hunt! They went around the classroom and worked on solving a series of math problems. The answer they found, if correct, would guide them to the next challenge, and they continued this process until they had completed every task in the classroom. Such a great way to make trig fun and engaging!

Today, our middle school Wildcats celebrated Black History Month with a very special guest, Ms. Sylvia England, the Executive Director and Founder of the African American Museum at the England Manor in Waukegan. Ms. England shared valuable insights about the museum, the significance of Black History Month, and African-American culture and heritage.
As students learned about the history and culture, they also got creative by making African Ancestral Beaded Bracelets. They explored their family genealogy, selecting beads to symbolize family members, important life moments, and things they are grateful for. This project connected students to each other, their community, and allowed them to celebrate African-American heritage.
Thank you to Ms. England and her team for meeting with our students and sharing their time
with Woodland.

Mrs. Herbst’s class worked on a tasty math project in class! These 4th grade Wildcats practiced fractions with “pizzas” by folding the crust into eighths, then choosing topping combinations to create their pizzas. This fun and creative project allowed students to work on adding unit fractions and multiply fractions by whole numbers.
Too bad they couldn't eat these pizzas afterward… 🍕💚
A special thank you to Jimano's Pizzeria in Gurnee for donating the pizza boxes!

Due to the forecasted weather this evening, we are moving our WISE (Woodland Inclusion and Special Education Empowerment Parent Group) meeting to a virtual format. Please join us! Meeting Details and Zoom Link - https://secure.smore.com/n/24p1c8

Service in the W: The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) students at WMS have been busy lately! They recently volunteered their time to pack meals at Feed My Starving Children, and made Valentines for Seniors in the community with Det. Hansen. Thank you for giving back to the community 💚 #LifeintheW

During The Great Kindness Challenge spirit week at the end of January, students at Woodland Intermediate participated in a Change Challenge to raise money for the annual district food drive. We are thrilled to announce that your donations raised a total of $398.72! Great job Wildcats 💚 #LifeintheW

Mrs. Zerante’s 2nd-grade students practiced budgeting in class by planning a party! In teams, they worked together to decide on everything from the party’s venue and decorations to the pizza and drinks, making sure each item fit within their budget. This a great skill for these young Wildcats to start practicing!

Last night, the Woodland Green and Woodland White Girls' volleyball teams went head-to-head, showcasing their dedication and teamwork. Both teams demonstrated that hard work and collaboration make #LifeintheW even better!

Mrs. Samulak’s 4th grade class conducted an electric experiment today! These students explored and learned about circuits and conductors in class, and worked in groups using a D-cell battery, wires, and springs to light up two lightbulbs. After observing the bulbs, the students noticed that they were dim when powered by just one battery. They then tried the same experiment using two batteries and found that using two allowed each bulb to shine brighter and more powerfully!

Not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin!!! (or Finny-Fin-Fin) The first graders in Mrs. Hansen's class took a deep dive on the many versions of the Three Little Pigs story. They read several versions together in class. This allowed them to make predictions when reading a new story, and make connections to previous versions. Then it was time to bring the story to life. The students constructed houses and then tried to blow them down. #LifeintheW 🐷🐷🐷
