Mr. Curtis and a representative from Carnegie Learning provided math demonstration lessons in 8th Grade as part of the Instructional Materials Review process at Woodland Middle School.
A "Shout-Out" to the Student of Service Club for making a difference and decorating the sidewalks with positive messages. Theses messages greeted the students as they entered the building today.
Good morning WMS! Did you see the positive messages from the Students of Service (S.O.S.) "Chalk the Walk" activity as you arrived for school today? Thank you to the S.O.S. for starting our morning off on a happy note. #LifeintheW
Today Woodland celebrates National Custodian Day! We appreciate our school custodians who go above and beyond to keep our schools clean and safe. You are often the first to arrive in the morning, stand ready to assist throughout the day, and stay into the evening to make sure our schools are ready to welcome our staff and students for a great day in #LifeintheW.
Homework Club is back!
Starting Monday, October 2, Middle School students can go to Homework Club at the LRC from 3:15 to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Thursday.
For permission slips, please get in touch with Lourdes Marrero at lmarrero@dist50.net or contact the front office.
We hope to see your students there. We are working to support our students on our way to success at WMS.
Thank you to Ms. Castrejon for inviting your students to lead the Board of Education in the Pledge of Allegiance at the September Board Meeting. Ms. Castrejon is a Spanish Language Arts teacher at Woodland Middle School, as well as a Culture and Climate Leader in the school. She shared information about various clubs, activities, events and spirit days that give students the opportunity to get involved and increase their sense of belonging.
Rain, Rain, Go Away! Wildcats want to play soccer today!
The WMS Boys and Girls soccer teams are scheduled to play soccer this afternoon for the last regularly scheduled games of the season. Today we will be taking on Grayslake - the boys are away, and the girls are home.
As of now, the games are on as scheduled. Lightening in the area or poor field conditions may cause a change to the schedule.
Best of luck to our WMS student athletes! #LifeintheW
The WMS Marching Band preformed at the Annual Fill the Drum event last night, and they did great! They came out ROARING to Katy Perry's "ROAR", and finished with the ever popular "YMCA". Thank you to everyone who joined us for a fun evening at Warren's football field to cheer on the WMS Marching Wildcats, and other local band students from the D56 Viking Band, Warren's Football Band, and Warren's Competition Band! Event attendees helped us "Fill the Drum" with more than $4,000 in donations to send relief to the victims of the Hawaii wildfires.
The Woodland Technology Team is made up of dedicated employees who are always working behind the scenes to make sure our staff has the technology they need to support our students, and that our students have the technology they need to be successful learners. It takes a special set of skills to be an IT professional, and we appreciate their hard work to make sure our network is safe, secure, and running at optimal levels. To the entire Woodland Technology Team, thank you for your service to our learning community! Your hard work is what allows us to stay connected, figuratively and literally. #LifeintheW

Board of Education President Anna Chang-Yen, and Board Member Brianna Powvens, recently attended the Rotary Club of Gurnee. They were invited to give a presentation about the Roles & Responsibilities of a school board/school board members. They also shared information about why they decided to serve the community in this role, provided updates about the school district and Woodland's new Five-Year Strategic Plan, and explained what it means to be part of #LifeintheW. We appreciate these Community Partnerships!
Our Operations & Facilities Department is amazing. Excited to have two new leaders join us to support our schools, staff and district. Please join us in welcoming Phillip Churchill and Adam Halperin to #LifeintheW. Welcome aboard!

Honoring those who lost their lives and the heroes who responded by teaching this history to our students who weren't born yet. Pictured here are students in Mr. Lakemacher's class making remembrance posters and reflecting on the tragic events that we promised to Never Forget. Today we remember the innocent lives lost, and the many lives that were forever changed on Sept. 11, 2001.
