Wishing all of our #LifeintheW friends and family a safe and happy 4th of July! The district will be closed on Tuesday, July 4 in observance of the holiday.

Officer Hansen stopped by Wildcat Summer Adventures for a meet and greet with students. We learned all about what a School Resource Officer (SRO) does, and the students had so many fun questions for her. Thank you Officer Hansen and the Gurnee Police Department for being such great community partners!

The Board of Education approved the hiring of Mr. Jared Reardon as the new principal of Woodland Elementary. Jared comes to Woodland with six years of elementary administrative experience, including serving the past three years as assistant principal of W.C. Petty Elementary School in Antioch School District 34, as well as an elementary school principal in Lockport, IL. Mr. Reardon lives in the district, and he is excited to join the #LifeintheW team starting on July 3, 2023.

Woodland Administrators took a celebration tour across the district to surprise Woodland retirees at their office or in their classroom with gifts and well wishes. We wish all of our retirees a happy retirement! Thank you for your dedicated service to the Woodland learning community and your many contributions to #LifeintheW

Our summer adventure Wildcats have arrived and they are ready for a great day! When the students arrived, they made their way to the cafeteria to meet their teachers. Plenty of Woodland staff and administrators on hand to greet our summer friends and help them find their table. Excited smiles to see friends and previous teachers waiting in the cafeteria! #LifeintheW

Third graders in Ms. McGinn’s Challenge Math class ended the year completing STEM challenges. Here are a few photos from the paper chain challenge. We spy TEAMWORK!

Joe Wenner is Woodland's Bus Driver of the Year!
Thousands of Woodland students (and their parents) depend on our bus drivers for a safe ride to and from school. Mr. Joe was recognized by his fellow Transportation coworkers as someone who has gone above and beyond his duties as a driver, has an excellent safety score, and is always kind to others. He takes the time to get to know the students on his route, and greets their families with a friendly smile. Mr. Joe has a great attendance record, and he is a trusted mentor and leader for other drivers.
Congratulations Mr. Joe, and thank you for all you do in service to our learning community!

Woodland Elementary had a GREAT time with Hot Ground Gym Libertyville! Thank you for helping our students achieve things they didn't even think was possible. You created a fun environment for us to be BRAVE, BOLD, and COURAGEOUS.

Bravo! Welcome to Readers Theater at Woodland Elementary.
Mrs. Jakielski's class performed two stories today for their families, guests, and special supporters. The students showcased their reading skills, memorized lines, helped with the set and costumes, and they put on a great show! #LifeintheW

Parent Information Night, May 24
Woodland D50 has partnered with psychologist and educator Dr. Doug Bolton to host a presentation that will address the suggestions and concerns that were shared by parents and guardians in response to the ongoing student behavior issues at Woodland Middle School. Dr. Bolton will share the latest research on creating inclusive school communities that support student safety and healthy engagement along with guidelines for understanding and managing challenging behavior. We will also be sharing our vision for next steps in our ongoing work to address these concerns.
This event is open to all Woodland parents and guardians in any grade, not limited to Middle School.

Happy School Nurse Day to the health professionals providing comfort and care for all of us in the Woodland learning community. Your role is critical in improving public health, and ensuring student success by bridging health care and education. Thank you for all you do in our schools to keep students healthy, safe, and ready to learn!

First Graders at Woodland Elementary celebrated the "Day of the Child", or Día Del Niño with a game day! The students were able to bring board games from home to play with friends. The children traveled to other classrooms so that Dual Language classes and Monolingual classes could come together to meet new friends through play. Some of the most popular games were Guess Who?, Lotería, Sorry, and “Climb and Slide” (Chutes and Ladders)!

Woodland Elementary Students Visit the Dunn Museum!
Students learned about Native Americans in Lake County, and saw the Dunn Museum's oldest artifact (a fossil estimated to be 420 million years old)! It was a great day of learning history with a local twist.

Woodland Elementary students and their families made time to PLAY! Family Fun Nights for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade were a big hit.
