Pumpkin Tower STEM Challenge at Elementary! Ms. McGinn's Challenge Math Students worked together in small groups to plan and build structures out of toothpicks and candy pumpkins. Students learned the importance of teamwork, planning, talking through a process, and making their ideas come alive. Once completed, students analyzed their structures and shared ideas about what they could have done differently. #LifeintheW

Today, Ms. Bautista’s 7th grade math students worked in teams of two to solve an “Escape Room” puzzle! Each of the four math problems, once solved, revealed a part of the code that, when put together, would allow them to “escape.” While the math problems were challenging, Ms. Bautista encouraged her students and helped them succeed!
We dropped in on a few Elementary Halloween Parties today! Fun games, creative crafts, parent volunteers... and some amazing costumes! The students were tasked with using Oreos to create a model of the phases of the moon. At the end of the lesson, Mrs. Werner pulled out a secret backup package of Oreos for the students to eat.

Middle school continued celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by creating Mexican Folk Art Mirrors! Before they began creating, students were taught the history of these mirrors. This project took several days, and while the students worked they listened to Duncan Tonatiuh’s book, The Princess and the Warrior, as well as tradition and modern music from Latin artists.
Introducing WISE – the Woodland Inclusion and Special Education Empowerment Parent Group! This initiative started last year as a Special Education Resource Group for parents, and we are ready to bring you a whole new series of programs for year two. WISE will be a great place to connect with other district families, get to know Woodland staff members who can help with resources, and get answers to your questions.

Mrs. Zieglers 5th grade class were astronomers for the day! They worked on identifying the celestial bodies of our solar system. Using cards they placed these planets, asteroids, and comets in order, then working as a team they identified their compositions. Wildcats working together can do anything! #LifeintheW
On Friday, Primary Wildcats met up at Warren Township Park for our second Primary Playdate! It was a beautiful day for students to play and meet up with classmates and friends from school.

This week is America's Safe Schools Week and National School Bus Safety Week! Safety on the school bus starts with our Woodland drivers 🚌
To celebrate School Bus Safety Week, our drivers are "Stepping into Safety" with snazzy new safety socks!
Woodland bus drivers are employees of the district, and they are responsible for transporting our students to and from school safely. This is a job they take seriously and we appreciate these dedicated employees for their commitment to our students. School bus drivers in Illinois must go through a rigorous training and licensing process, as well as background checks and other safeguards, to ensure they are qualified to perform this important role in the district.
Every day, Woodland bus drivers conduct a full safety inspection of their bus before picking up students. Drivers are also provided professional development and go through safety evaluations to make sure our students are in good hands.

It was a busy day at Primary! These little Wildcats had some very special guests - their families! Parents and guardians came to school today for the Early Childhood & WELE Round Up. Yee Haw! 🤠 They went to the Primary Pumpkin Patch, went on a hayride, and spent time in the classroom making fall arts and crafts.

Thank you to the Warren Special Recreation Association for teaching our students about the amazing programs and resources you provide in the community. The students also heard from Woodland teachers about opportunities to volunteer at lunch/recess and during P.E. to be student buddies, and things they can do throughout the day to help others feel included and welcome. #LifeintheW
Congratulations to Emery in Mrs. Nelson's 3rd Grade Class for winning the Attendance Awareness Month bulletin board design contest! Emery and her friends will turn her design into an actual bulletin board outside of the gym in the main hallway to keep the importance of attendance top of mind for all Elementary students. This morning she explained her design in front of her classmates, and then received a certificate for her achievement. Great job Emery! #LifeintheW
