The Woodland Middle School Cross Country Girls won Sectionals, and Brody and Tyler also qualified for State! The state meet will be this coming Saturday (10/14) in Normal, IL. Well done athletes, and best of luck at STATE THIS WEEKEND!!! #LifeintheW
The month of October is National Principals Month! At Woodland we are so fortunate to have four dedicated school leaders taking care of our learning community. Let's see how well you know our principals!
Which principal is the biggest football fan? 🏈 Which principal has an identical twin? 🐯🐯 Which principal loves dogs almost as much as Wildcats? 🐕 Which principal was once lead singer in a rock band? 🎤 The answers can be found in the Weekly Newsletter HERE: https://www.smore.com/ct92fy
We invite you to join us in showing our collective appreciation to these dedicated leaders and #ThankaPrinicpal with an email to your child’s principal or a kind word about them on social media. Throughout the year, our school leaders may only hear from stakeholders when there is a problem that needs solving or an issue that a parent/guardian feels needs attention. If you have positive feedback or a success story to share, this would be a great time to send it along and show a little “TLC” to four individuals who care for so many others each day.
What word can we use to describe this amazing group of athletes?

(DIS)ABILITY AWARENESS ASSEMBLY at Woodland Intermediate
In case you missed it in Mr. Sheldon's newsletter, here is the video from the assembly on Friday. https://youtu.be/uTpc94s3sOA?si=kHM7adu-_zvWM5fd
At the assembly, students heard from representatives from the Lake County Center for Independent Living, Lunch Supervisor Heather Clark, and Hearing Teacher Jessica Pierson. The speakers talked about their disabilities, and all the ways they are the same as everyone else - with the same interests, hobbies, hopes, dreams, and aspirations. Students also learned about using Person-First language, inclusive play, and treating others with respect. Here is a video they created to show clips from the presentation.
Good morning WMS! Did you see the positive messages from the Students of Service (S.O.S.) "Chalk the Walk" activity as you arrived for school today? Thank you to the S.O.S. for starting our morning off on a happy note. #LifeintheW
Today Woodland celebrates National Custodian Day! We appreciate our school custodians who go above and beyond to keep our schools clean and safe. You are often the first to arrive in the morning, stand ready to assist throughout the day, and stay into the evening to make sure our schools are ready to welcome our staff and students for a great day in #LifeintheW.
Green Apple Day of Service at Woodland Primary!
Thank you to our staff, students and family volunteers for joining us at Primary's Green Apple Day of Service. Participating in this event each year encourages our students to care for their school and learning environment. It also sends the message that even our youngest Wildcats can make a difference, and fosters a sense of ownership in making our school a better place.
While the students worked on projects inside the school, the adults took on several outdoor projects including painting, landscaping, and creating new playground games for the students! #LifeintheW
Thank you to Ms. Castrejon for inviting your students to lead the Board of Education in the Pledge of Allegiance at the September Board Meeting. Ms. Castrejon is a Spanish Language Arts teacher at Woodland Middle School, as well as a Culture and Climate Leader in the school. She shared information about various clubs, activities, events and spirit days that give students the opportunity to get involved and increase their sense of belonging.
Mrs. Rejczyk's 4th Grade Advanced Language Arts Class had an excellent book discussion today. They are just finishing up their first book study of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. The story is about a beloved toy rabbit who is lost at sea, and the students loved sharing their favorite parts of the adventure that followed. The students also picked up on Edward Tulane's personal journey and how his character developed and changed over time. Great job!
Learning all about APPLES 🍏🍎 on Johnny Appleseed Day at Elementary! Students rotated through four neighboring classrooms to participate in different apple themed activities. #LifeintheW
First graders read a story called The Blackout by John Rocco (for English Language Arts), and then used flashlights to do their work in the dark. They even took their flashlights to the library where they read another book by the same author, and used their flashlights to search for books and explore the library. #LifeintheW
The WMS Marching Band preformed at the Annual Fill the Drum event last night, and they did great! They came out ROARING to Katy Perry's "ROAR", and finished with the ever popular "YMCA". Thank you to everyone who joined us for a fun evening at Warren's football field to cheer on the WMS Marching Wildcats, and other local band students from the D56 Viking Band, Warren's Football Band, and Warren's Competition Band! Event attendees helped us "Fill the Drum" with more than $4,000 in donations to send relief to the victims of the Hawaii wildfires.

The Woodland Technology Team is made up of dedicated employees who are always working behind the scenes to make sure our staff has the technology they need to support our students, and that our students have the technology they need to be successful learners. It takes a special set of skills to be an IT professional, and we appreciate their hard work to make sure our network is safe, secure, and running at optimal levels. To the entire Woodland Technology Team, thank you for your service to our learning community! Your hard work is what allows us to stay connected, figuratively and literally. #LifeintheW
The students in Ms. Barton's class love playing with Playdoh, so they decided to make their own! Everyone pitched in to make the dough as they worked on making measurements and taking turns.
