A More Confident You!: Empowerment through Self-Compassion

How many of us have things we dislike about ourselves?

So often our automatic reaction is to judge and tell ourselves that things should be different. This 5-week group will focus on the challenges that adolescents have with loving and accepting themselves as they are.

In this group we will discuss the power of self-esteem and how being kind to ourselves with all of our imperfections can benefit our wellbeing.

Group curriculum is based on the self-compassion research done by Dr. Kristin Neff, Ph.D., and it will be facilitated by Warren Township Youth & Family Services Therapist, AnnaMarie Seminary, MSW, LSW.

Grades: 6-8
Day: Monday, 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Dates: 06/09 - 07/14/2025, 5 Weeks
Location: Youth & Family Services, 100 S. Greenleaf St., Gurnee, IL 60031

Mindful Art

A Mindful Art Experience

This group is designed to provide teens with an opportunity to express themselves verbally and non-verbally while developing self-regulation skills in the face of emotional stressors.

Participants will create art while noticing their mental states, thoughts, emotions, impulses, and memories in a non-judgmental manner.

This awareness results in a higher level of self-awareness and stress reduction. No artistic ability is required.

Dates: 6/17 – 7/22/2025
Grades: 6-8 & 9-12
Day & Time: Tuesday, 2:00-3:00 p.m. (6th-8th) & 3:30-4:45 p.m. (9th-12th)
