Early Entrance to Kindergarten
The state of Illinois requires children to be five years of age by Sept. 1 of their kindergarten year. District 50 has identified an early entrance process that addresses exceptions for children showing skills in the very superior range when compared with peers. Children should demonstrate advancement in both social and academic skills. The decision to allow a student early entrance is solely at the discretion of the school district based on a comprehensive assessment conducted by our team.

Parent Consideration
Entering kindergarten early or accelerating your child's grade entrance is a serious decision that will impact their educational journey. Maturity, academic potential, and social-emotional development should all be factors considered. Parents are expected to look at the big picture, the entire span of their child's learning experiences from grades K-8, because this acceleration will impact their entire educational career. Please note that based on the screening process, very few children meet the criteria to enter kindergarten early.

Early Entrance to Kindergarten Process and Paperwork
Please note that all paperwork must be submitted by May 31st, 2024. Assessments will not be scheduled until June 2024.
