Who should enter the Dual Language Lottery?

Any parent wanting their child to be bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish and interested in making a commitment to the Dual Language Program should enter the lottery.

This new event welcomes parents and their kindergarten students to learn about Woodland Primary and the options for monolingual kindergarten and dual language kindergarten.  This event will have several areas of interest for parents to visit while their child engages in some activities.  

Parents will learn about language assessments/services, the Dual Language program, the lottery for Dual Language, the monolingual program, and additional resources like the PTA, the kindergarten family coordinator, and PBIS.  There will also be information and support for how to complete online registration.

Students can participate in creating a special craft, playing a math game, reading with a teacher, and other fun activities.  Students will also celebrate “signing” with Primary with a fun photo opportunity.

Sign-up for the Dual Language lottery will be open on March 6th, 2024 at our Wildcat Welcome event.  The lottery sign-up will be available starting March 6th and runs through April 5th.  All incoming Kindergarten families interested in being a part of Woodland's Dual Language program must complete a Google lottery sign-up form. You can complete this form on March 6th at our Wildcat Welcome event. If you miss the event, the form will be a part of the online Kindergarten registration. The Dual Language lottery form closes on April 5th. Those completing the form after April 5th, 2024 are added to a waitlist. Come to our March 6th event to hear and learn about our Dual Language program!

The lottery will happen on April 10, 2024.  The district uses a random number generator program to conduct the lottery. All results and a video recording of the actual lottery will be emailed to the email address provided. The email will notify you if your child has a seat in dual language. If there is a lot of interest, space may not be available for everyone. In this case, those from the lottery who are not retaining a seat will be added to the waitlist. Incoming Kindergarten children must be registered by April 10, 2024, to retain a Dual Languages spot. Please note that English-speaking students are not eligible to enter the Dual Language Program after first grade.

The Kindergarten Dual Language lottery form closes on April 5, 2024. After April 5, 2024, the waitlist form is part of Kindergarten online registration. You must complete the waitlist form if you missed the lottery but want your child to participate in Woodland's Dual Language program. Your child will be added to the waitlist in the order your form was received and after the waitlist from the lottery participants. The Kindergarten Dual Language lottery form closes on April 5, 2024.

This event is for parents to attend. You will either attend the monolingual presentation or the Dual Language presentation.  Specific details about each program will be shared by a teacher panel and time will be allotted to answer questions.

This event is an open-house style event that gives families a chance to walk the entire school, take a bus ride, play on the playground, meet other families and more.  Additional community resources are present like the Gurnee Police Department, Gurnee Fire Department, the PTA, and Touch a Truck.

During this event, families are invited to bring in their supplies, meet Primary staff, their teacher and tour the room. More information on the date and time will be emailed to families by Woodland Primary School, closer to the start of the school year.
